Ethel Mae Scarlet, a young prostitute from Colorado, took on the identity of a preacher’s daughter while traveling on a steamer from Seattle, WA to Ketchikan, Alaska. Ethel was run out of town soon after she joined the local ladies church social upon the arrival of the preacher’s real daughter. She opened a successful brothel in Skagway called “The Minister’s Daughters” with the gold nuggets she earned back in Ketchikan.
